Self-Compassion Community (2024)

We created the Self-Compassion Community as a place where people could come together to learn and strengthen the life-changing skill of self-compassion. Thousands of research studies show that self-compassion improves mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing. By joining our community, you will be firmly on the path to developing a healthier, more authentic way of relating to yourself and others. As a community member, you will be able to:

  • Attend a live event with Kristin once a month. She will lead a practice and you can ask her questions on self-compassion directly.
  • Join events with guest colleagues such as Chris Germer, Tara Brach, Dan Siegel, Dick Schwartz, Rick Hanson, and others!
  • Attend weekly group mentor sessions to deepen your practice and connect with other community members.
  • Give yourself the compassion you need in the moment using a toolkit with a variety of newly recorded guided self-compassion practices.
  • Hang out in the Learning Corner to watch workshop clips or see Kristin's answers to people's questions about self-compassion.
  • Read dozens of blog posts created by Kristin about self-compassion practice, which usually include a short video and guided exercise.
  • Tell your story and connect with others in the Sharing Corner - focused on self-compassion in our personal, interpersonal and professional lives.
  • Join a self-compassion book club to read, learn and discuss ideas with fellow members.

Mentor Sessions

These one hour group zoom sessions (heldmultiple timeseach week) will be led by an experienced self-compassion mentor. It’s a precious opportunity to deepen your practice and connect with fellow community members. There will be affinity group mentor sessions for members who share an identity to discuss self-compassion practice. (We will start with a BIPOC group and LBGTQ+ group, led by a mentor who shares this identity.) A book club will be led by a mentor in which members will read and discuss selected books on self-compassion together. "What do I need?" Practice Toolkit

Self-compassion involves giving ourselves what we need in the moment to alleviate suffering. Sometimes we need acceptance, sometimes we need to take action. This toolkit will provide a variety of empirically-supported self-compassion practices to help you meet your needs with strength and warmth.

These newly recorded guided practices are targeted toward different types of struggle such as feeling inadequate, caregiver distress, coping with difficult emotions, the need to stand up for yourself, the need to relax, and more. Practices are of different lengths, including mini practices (3 minutes or less) that can be used on the spot in daily life! New practices will be added continually.

Practice Blogs

Dr. Neff has created dozens of blog posts to explore different aspects of self-compassion practice, such as how to create balance in our relationships, cope with generational pain, draw boundaries, motivate change, live a fulfilling life, and much more.

Most blog posts include a brief article written by Dr. Neff, a short video, and a guided practice.

Self-Compassionate Motivation

One of the biggest blocks to practicing self-compassion is the belief that it will undermine our motivation. People think that if they’re kind to themselves, they’ll become lazy, irresponsible, and complacent. The opposite is true.Tender self-compassion allows us to accept ourselves unconditionally, while fierce self-compassion spurs us to take action to change behaviors or situations that cause suffering. This means that instead of taking it personally when we fail, we remember that failure is human, and we try to learn from our mistakes.
